Water Pollution

Did you know that more people die from drinking unfiltered water than from violence? Water pollution is a serious issue, especially in China and India. In China, only one-half of the whole population even has access to drinkable water. The other half is suffering, even dying, from all of the bacteria and diseases that are found within their water.

Some causes of this water pollution include global warming, water dumping, and fuel spillages. Through global warming, carbon emissions are making the water warmer which provides less oxygen for the fish to survive. From water dumping, about eighty percent of sewer waste makes its way into our seas and rivers without being filtered. Finally, fuel spillages have been responsible for polluting our water resources.

There are some ways that we can all help!

When you wash your car or equipment make sure the dirty water goes in to a gravel or grass area instead of the street and sewers. You can also blow or sweep fertilizer back onto the grass, and be sure not to fertilize before it rains. The chemicals will be flushed into the drains and waterways. Of course, always be sure to pick up your trash and place it in the garbage can. These are just a few examples, there are many other ways that people can help that may be simpler than you think.
