Colorado River Crisis

Many people across many states have come to rely on the Colorado River for their daily activities. But, the amount of water demanded is not being met since there is insufficient supply from the Colorado River. Now people are struggling to produce water for growing crops, drinking water, and electricity. Due to a lack of water in the Colorado River to feed and grow cattle, some farmers have started to utilize genetic selection to develop cattle that would produce the most amount of meat.

Because of the water scarcity, cities and states are attempting to compensate in whatever manner they can. This past May, the federal government has chosen to decrease the quantity of water withdrawn from Lake Powell due to all-time lows levels there. Historically, Las Vegas activated a low-level pumping station that drew water from Lake Mead, the biggest reservoir in the United States. The water levels are just too low that they risk power outages if they continue to drop. The impacts of climate change are being felt in our daily lives, and we are going to have to start making big changes!
